As a result of the accident, the Defendant was charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a crash, failure to report a motor vehicle accident and driving while suspended. He was released upon a summons to appear in the Franklin Township Municipal Court to answer for the charges. According to the reports, nobody else was injured as a result of the accident.
Facing a DUI Charge in Franklin Township?
Although driving under the influence charges are considered traffic in nature, New Jersey takes these types of offenses very seriously. In fact, DUI offenses are one of only two offenses in New Jersey whereby plea bargaining is prohibited. Even a first time offender is facing a mandatory loss of license, high fines, imposition of the ignition interlock device, 12 hours in the intoxicated drivers resource center and up to 30 days in jail. These are just some of the reasons why we strongly urge anyone charged with this type of offense to contact an experienced DUI defense attorney as soon as possible.
