Juvenile Terroristic Threat Attorneys Somerset County NJ
Following the tragic events that unfolded in south Florida this week, schools throughout the country, including New Jersey have been on heightened alert. That is why when a juvenile from Franklin Township allegedly made a threatening statement against Franklin High School on social media, the police quickly reacted. According to nj.com, Franklin Superintendent, John Ravally announced that following the threat on social media, the juvenile was charged with one count of terroristic threats and formally suspended from school. He went on to state that “The recent tragic school event that occurred in Parkland, Florida is a reminder that we as a community need to remain diligent in our efforts to secure our schools.”. It appears that the Franklin Township Police Department conducted an investigation and were able to conclude that there was no immediate danger and the school was reopened the next day.
Following being charged with one count of terroristic threats, the juvenile was released to the custody of his parents. Since he is fourteen years old, the charges will be litigated in the Family Division of the Somerset County Superior Court, which is located in Somerville, New Jersey. Terroristic threats is considered a third degree felony offense in New Jersey. This offense in essence seeks to prosecute anyone who makes a threat of violence with the intent to terrorize another or to otherwise cause a serious public inconvenience. If the juvenile is convicted of this offense, he could be sentenced up to two years in a juvenile detention center.
