Manalapan NJ Gun Charge Lawyer
A welfare check in Manalapan leads to a local teenager being arrested and charged with various indictable offenses, including unlawful possession of a weapon. It is unclear at this point in time what spawned the welfare check request but when the officers arrived on scene is when the situation went from bad to worse. According to the Asbury Park Press, a struggle between the officers and the Defendant ensued. During the struggle, the officers alleged that the Defendant displayed a firearm. Following the brief struggle, the Defendant was taken into custody without incident.
As a result, he was placed under arrest and taken to the Monmouth County Jail pending his Central Judicial Processing Hearing. He was ultimately charged with the following offenses: aggravated assault on a police officer in the third degree; unlawful possession of a weapon in the second degree; possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in the second degree; possession of a defaced firearm in the second degree and resisting arrest in the third degree. Depending on Pretrial Services Assessment, the Monmouth County Prosecutor may seek to file for what is known as a Detention Hearing. If that is to occur, that means that the prosecution will be seeking to convince the Judge that the Defendant must be detained, without bail, pending trial.
