It has been announced that the Monmouth County DWI Task Force and the Hazlet Police Department will be conducting a DUI Checkpoint in the township this weekend. The DWI checkpoint will be conducted from 10 pm on Friday night to 2 am on Saturday morning. The DWI checkpoint will take place on the eastbound lanes of Route 36 near the Holy Family Church. Anyone that is suspected of being under the influence will be diverted to the Holy Family Church parking lot so they can be further investigated. At that point in time they will be put through the standardized field sobriety tests to determine whether there is probable cause to arrest the suspect. If an individual is arrested, they will be taken down to the Hazlet Police Department so that they can submit a breath sample. Depending on the results of that test, the individual may be charged with driving while intoxicated or refusal to submit to a breath sample.
If the individual is determined to be under the influence, they will be issued a summons to appear in the Hazlet Municipal Court to answer for those charges. Palmer, they will be picking a different town each and every week during the summer months to conduct a DUI checkpoint.
