A two month long undercover investigation that lead to the arrest of three Mercer County residents was concluded this week in Hamilton, New Jersey. According to the reports, this was a multi agency investigation and it involved several undercover narcotics sales. The agencies involved included the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, U.S. Marshals Service, the Hamilton Police Department and the Hamilton Police Department. Based on their investigation, a search warrant was obtained for the main suspects residence. Once the search warrant was fully executed on the home, two bundles of heroin, 37 Xanax’s and nine marijuana baggies were seized. Also, the main suspect, a thirty-eight year old male from Hamilton, was found to be in possession of 24 more bricks of heroin and over $500 in cash. In addition to him, two other Hamilton residences were arrested as well following a subsequent search of vehicle they were operating. The vehicle, which was later seized, resulted in three more bags of crack cocaine.
The main Defendant was brought to the Mercer County Jail and remains their pending a Detention Hearing. Under the new bail guidelines, the prosecution now has the ability to detain a Defendant in jail, without bail, pending trial. However, before they can do so a Detention Hearing must take place. During the hearing it will be the State’s burden to establish by clear and convincing evidence that there are no less intrusive means to protect the public or assure that the Defendant will appear in court. The other two Defendants who were arrested at the end of the investigation were released on a ROR status.
