The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office announced this week that a teacher’s aid from a school in Montgomery Township has been arrested after a lengthy investigation into his relationship with one of the school’s female students. The Defendant, a thirty-five year old male from Lawrence Township, was taken into custody September 25th and charged with among other things, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. Based on the reports from nj.com, while the Defendant was a teacher’s aid at East Mountain School, he had formed what quickly turned into an inappropriate relationship with one of the female students. Apparently, the relationship began via text messages where in which the Defendant and the victim allegedly engaged in inappropriate sexual conversations. However, the inappropriate text messages quickly escalated into a physical relationship between the Defendant and the victim. Based on the investigation the Defendant was taken to the Somerset County Jail and formally charged with one count of sexual assault in the second degree, one count of endangering the welfare of a child in the second degree and one count of witness tampering in the third degree. The Defendant remains in the Somerset County jail pending a detention hearing. During that hearing, the prosecution will be seeking to detain the Defendant in the Somerset County Jail, without bail, pending trial.
