The Princeton Municipal Court has jurisdiction over all disorderly persons, petty disorderly persons, borough ordinances and traffic offenses that occur within the borough. Disorderly persons offenses are New Jersey’s version of misdemeanors, we just do not use that phrase. They will also have jurisdiction over all indictable (felony) charges that the Mercer County Prosecutor’s office remands. Some of the most common remanded charges include, shoplifting, heroin possessions, burglaries, aggravated assaults and endangering the welfare of a child.
Where is Princeton Located?
In 2011 Princeton Township and Princeton Borough successfully voted to merge the two municipalities into one. However, it was not until 2013 that the two municipalities became one. Now, Princeton covers just under 19 square miles in the northeast section of Mercer County and has a population of just under 30,000. Princeton is also home to one of the Country’s most prestigious colleges, Princeton University. It is a private Ivy League University that dates all the way back to 1746. However, it was called Princeton University till 1896 when it finally relocated from Newark, New Jersey.
